2013 Coaching Staff

Rob Pacey, Head Boys Track and Field Coach

Rob Pacey starts his second year as head boys track and field coach at PBL Junior High School in 2013. In his first season in 2012, the 8th grade boys won the TCC conference meet and the sectional championship, while setting school records in the 110 meter hurdles, long jump, high jump, pole vault and 4 x 200 meter relay.  The 7th grade boys were fourth at sectionals, setting the school record in the pole vault in the process.

During the last five years, he has also worked as a volunteer assistant coach for the PBL Junior High cross country team.  Highlights during that time include: 5 Sectional Titles, 2 Sectional Runner-Ups, 4 All-State Runners, 2 Top-10 finishes by the girls’ team and 2 State Trophies for the boys’ team (4th Place in 2010 and 2nd Place in 2011).  
Mr. Pacey is a 6th grade social studies teacher at PBL.  He received his degree in history from the University of Illinois in 2008. 

His coaching education includes Level 1 (2007 and 2010) and Level 2 (Youth Development in 2011 and Endurance Running in 2012) coaching certification through USA Track and Field.  Coach Pacey also received Track and Field Technical Certification from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association in 2011.  He will be working towards certifications in Sprints/Hurdles/Relays from USATF and Jumps from USTFCCCA in the summer of 2013.

Dustin Franckey, Volunteer Assistant Coach - Distance

Dustin Franckey was a 4-time state champion for Eureka High School, winning the Class A cross country title in 1999 (14:46 for 3 miles), the 3200 meters in 1999 and 2000 (9:30 and 9:21) and the 1600 meters in 2000 (4:21). 

He was a member of Eureka's legendary 1999 boys' cross country state championship team, which won the title with 32 points - the lowest Class A score in IHSA history. 

He now lives in Paxton with his family. Dustin is a volunteer coach for the PBL Junior High cross country team in the fall, and hopes to continue working with our 800 and 1600 meter runners this spring on the track.

Jon Watts, Volunteer Assistant Coach - Pole Vault/Sprints

Jon Watts is a PBL graduate and currently attends Parkland College.


He competed in the pole vault and sprints for the Panthers, and has attended numerous pole vault clinics and camps over the last several years, including helping with PBL Summer Pole Vault Camp.


Jon will primarily be helping our vaulters during the 2013 season.

Tom Stone, Volunteer Assistant Coach - Distance/High Jump

Tom Stone is currently finishing his degree at the University of Illinois. This spring, he will be completing his student teaching at PBL Junior High and High School, teaching art classes under the guidance of Mrs. Ager.


He competed on the cross country team and in the high jump at Chatham Glenwood High School.


Coach Stone has previous coaching experience helping with the track team at Champaign Jefferson and the volleyball teams at Mahomet-Seymour.

Cody Evans, Volunteer Assistant Coach - Throws

Cody Evans is a PBL graduate who is now pursuing a degree in education at Illinois State University. He has helped with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentoring program at PBL Junior High, as well as the Paxton Park District. 

Cody ranks in the top 10 all-time for PBL JH boys' throwers in both the shot put (44'6) and the discus (133'11). He looks forward to helping young athletes learn the basics of the throws. During the season, he will be helping our throwers improve their technique and overall performance in the shot put.

Patrick Hoefle, Volunteer Assistant Coach - Throws

Patrick Hoefle qualified for the IHSA state finals while at Lena-Winslow, where he set the school record in the discus with a throw of 168'8 in 2007.  

Patrick then attended Augustana College, where he focused primarily on the hammer throw and discus for the Vikings' track team.  In the spring of 2010, he qualified for the NCAA Division 3 National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the discus. 

He is currently a graduate student at Illinois State University.

John Pacey, Volunteer Assistant Coach - High Jump

John Pacey is a former high school math teacher and basketball coach. He taught at Dixon High School and Champaign Centennial High School, and he now works in computer programming and software design for Wolfram Research in Champaign.

He participated in the high jump, 400, and the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays in high school track. John was also the first All-State runner for the PBL Junior High cross country team (11:18 for two miles in 1999).

Steve Pacey, Volunteer Assistant Coach - Distance/Relays

Steve Pacey is a lifelong runner and Paxton resident.  He was the first Paxton High School cross country runner ever to qualify for the state meet in 1965 and also held the two-mile school record from 1966-1970.

Pacey qualified for the Boston Marathon in 2010, running 3:30 at the age of 60.  He will be helping primarily with distance runners and relays.
